Since the job is really specialized, the engineer needs to have a lot of training and experience to handle things smoothly. When it comes to hiring someone, there are two ways to go about it — hire a full time employee or hire an electrical engineering contractor.

Whilst you may think that having a dedicated person who is hired by you is a better idea than having a contractor do the job, the truth can be exactly the opposite. Employing someone, in any capacity, makes you liable towards a lot of things. To get the benefits of an employee, you will also have to give all the benefits that an employee is supposed to get. And a good engineer will not come cheap anyway.

On the other hand, independent contractors take care of their own expenses and benefits and only charge you for the amount of time and effort spent by them. Their charges might seem a bit high but remember that you are not giving them health benefits, stock options or any such incentive to work for you. They are on their own. So when it comes to the figures — you will definitely end up spending less than employing someone.

And avoiding the situation by hiring someone half-baked is not an option at all. Qualified electrical engineering contractors are people who understand the complexities of modern building circuits, automated circuit breakers, complex HVAC systems, etc. They know how to navigate their way through badly done wiring and set things right. Their experience also allows them to foresee problems arising from faults in the circuit or equipment and warn you in advance. These are the ways in which they not only solve the problems that you have but also the problems that you might face in the near future.

These contractors are qualified engineers who take pride in what they do. From the complicated industrial set ups with high tension wires everywhere to modern commercial complexes with their automated security and safety equipment — hiring professional electrical engineering contractors is always a profitable deal.

Finding a decent contractor can be a difficult and frustrating process. When money is tight, nothing is more infuriating than not getting what you paid for. There is an option, though, to make sure your home improvement projects are done exactly the way you want; complete them yourself. Building codes will require certain work, if you want to be legal, do be done by licensed professionals, but there are many projects you are probably more than capable to handle this weekend. Put a little cash in your vacation fund and impress your old lady with these 7 improvement projects you can cross off the list without calling in the high priced guys.

Painting

Very visible and very cheap. Adding a bit of color to a wall or room can completely change the area’s feel. Look around your home, are the walls lacking diversity? A few cans of paint and an afternoon will change your home’s color profile, making it feel warmer, brighter, or more luxurious. A dark, rich color, for example, will add drama and elegance to a room, a nice choice for your theater room. The key to a nice paint job is preparation. Take care to fix all imperfections in your walls, remove fixtures and furniture and cover everything else. This will make for a quick, clean and uneventful afternoon of painting.

Caulking

The DIY Network says that caulking, or lack there of, is the leading cause of shower and tub leaks. Old, peeling caulk also gives your shower a real dingy appearance, not something you want to subject guests to. Fixing this issue, though, is real easy. First remove all the old caulk before and clean the area well. DIY Network recommends a caulk with built-in mildew killer and using a caulking gun (cheap) for ease of application. On a completely dry surface, apply a thin bead of caulking and smooth with a moistened finger to make sure there are no air pockets. Now your bathroom is mother-in-law approved.

Tile

Upgrading a bathroom, laundry room or kitchen to tile flooring can really improve the room’s value and add luxury to your home. First, clear the floor of any old material, as well as the baseboards. Measure the square feet of the area so you know how much tile you’ll need. Mix your adhesive, and begin in the center of the room, laying one tile at a time. This will ensure even coverage and is especially important if your tiles are forming a design. Use spacers to create a consistent layout. To finish, fill the spaces with grout by putting down a big clump of it and dragging into the troughs. Remember to wipe the excess, always a good rule.

Leaky faucet

Drip, drip, drip in the middle of the night is an amazingly annoying sound. Go to your sink, and locate the leak. If it is coming from the faucet, it is probably a worn or failed washer. Turn off the water and remove and the faucet handle, which is likely held on by a couple screws. The handle protects the packing nut, which will have to be removed with pliers or an adjustable wrench. Now you are inside the faucet and should see a rubber washer (take care to note how everything goes back together). Remove it (likely held in place with a screw) and replace with an exact sized washer

.

Lawn care

Some parts of the home require constant maintenance or improvement, your lawn being an obvious offender. That monthly bill you are paying a lawn service company really adds up over the course of a year. HGTV has a few basic recommendations for doing the work yourself, but making it look like you have plenty of discretionary income for such things. First, don’t mow it too low; you’ll hurt the roots and promote dry and burned grass. You can get away with watering once a week, but make sure you give it a real solid soak, or a deep watering. Finally, feed your lawn some fertilizer 3 times a year with a nutrient filled product, complete with nitrogen, phosphate, potassium, copper, iron, and sulfur. Just like you, your lawn needs a healthy, well rounded diet.

Front door

Your front door is your guests’ gateway into the house and a nice one can set the mood for the visit. It can also add security and energy efficiency. There are a lot of options out there, so to narrow down your choices, Bob Vila says to first consider these factors – climate, construction, maintenance and style. You want your door to match the look of your home and stand up to the elements. After choosing a door, be a man and install it yourself. Save yourself some trouble and order the door “pre-hung” meaning the hardware is already installed. Remove your old door by knocking out the hinge pins, unscrewing the old hinges and prying off the trim. In place of the previous door, slide in the new one. You may have to shim the new jambs. Check for plumb on the sides and the top for level. If everything is set, nail the jamb to the frame. Finally, install new trim material around the door. Now you have an entrance you can be proud of.

Demolition

You may get to a point where your home improvement project is too much to handle and you have to call in a professional. If any demolition is required, you can save your self some cash and do it yourself. No reason to be paying a plumber $150/hour to cut concrete. Our buddy Bob Vila doesn’t want you rushing into anything, though, so he provides some prep work before demo. First, get approval from the city for your project. When you are ready to begin the fun stuff (moving walls with heavy fire power) make sure the area you are working in is off – water, gas, electrical, etc. Have a solid understanding of the structural properties of whatever you are working on, like load bearing walls or beams, for example. Finally, you will have some waste from you demo, so make a plan to get rid of it. Know the rules for disposing of various materials, especially the hazardous types. Try not to get away while you’re swingin’.
Ravinder Bishthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09606216146233590623noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4008363259662952131.post-27257299088835782712010-05-20T09:01:00.000-07:002010-05-20T09:03:47.865-07:00Kitchen Cabinets

Ways in Which you can Renovate the Kitchen

The article emphasises on the fact that painting thems in accordance with the theme of the kitchen will make a huge difference to the entire home.

Cabinets are an integral feature of any good kitchen for a lot of reasons. To begin with, they define the theme and style of the home and kitchen as well as they also have a very utilitarian purpose.

Normally, grocery items apart from other essential items in the bathroom and kitchen are stored in the cupboards.

Thus, occupy a central position in these rooms, and it would be unimaginable to have a kitchen without cabinets. Perhaps this is the reason why people are so preoccupied with their look.

If you feel that your they are out of date and make your kitchen look conventional and drab, you can remodel them so that they appear trendy and good-looking.

However, before you plan to change the look, you have to be sure of what you’ll want. What kind of paint colour or wood stain would you like for your cabinets? If you feel confident of taking on the job yourself, you can approach home improvement stores like Lowes or Home Depot and ask for help.

These stores have a very friendly staff to guide you so that you do not make a mistake in choosing the furniture, and in this case, cabinets that will suit the ambience of your kitchen.

It would be a great idea to check out the websites of these home improvement stores. Their website addresses are www.lowes.com and www.homedepot.com respectively.

By doing this, you can find out if they have good discount schemes that will cut down on your home remodeling expenses.

Re-designing the Cabinets of your House

Apart from this, you can select the cabinet theme that that will complement your kitchen the most. Thus, these home improvement stores are a great help when it comes to remodeling any part of the house.

Just painting the cabinets is also a good way of altering the look of your kitchen or bathroom. Planning a theme will help in choosing the right colour.

Colors for Kitchen Paint

For example, if you are thinking about a cherry theme for the kitchen, painting the cabinets red is a good idea, whereas if you want an ocean theme, you can paint your cabinets a light blue or sand.

In other words, whatever theme you have in mind will be highlighted by a complementing colour for the furniture.

Again, the home improvement stores mentioned above will help you in choosing the right paint for your cabinets.

Another option is to visit their online stores and find out the expenses that you would incur for paint and other needed supplies. If you keep these points in mind, you will definitely have cabinets that will enhance the look of the kitchen remodel.
Well, Japanese designer Tokujin Yoshioka didn’t forget so he grew natural crystals to form a chair! It is called the Venus Chair. He created it for his exhibition, Second Nature in Tokyo later this month. He wanted each of the artists participating in this event to ”convey the mysterious power of nature and life”. His vision of fusing technology with nature is why he called his exhibition Second Nature.

The designer grew the crystals on a sponge like form set in a tank filled with a super concentrated solution. The above picture is his pilot chair grown in a smaller tank before he advanced to the full scale model. Making crystals takes a lot of time but the results are spectacular. The chair may not be functional but it is a great piece of art.

Ravinder Bishthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09606216146233590623noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4008363259662952131.post-45909142066525555772008-11-24T21:59:00.000-08:002008-11-24T22:06:02.737-08:00Lazerian Mensa Coffee Table with Puzzle Structure as Its Base

Coffee tables are our best friends when we want to have some small chat with our friends and colleagues while enjoying our cup of coffee. England based designer and manufacturer has now added to their collection the Mensa Coffee table to let us enjoy more our cup of coffee. Buy the Best Furniture

An Introduction to Home Furniture

We all know that a mere physical structure does not make a home. It is the furniture that we put into it, and how it makes us feel and the type of mood that it creates for us, that make it a home. Home furniture, home décor and furniture, home entertainment furniture, home bar furniture, even used home furniture, if properly chosen, can do wonders in creating for us the home of our dreams. Attending a model home furniture sale or deciding to purchase furniture online can also result in purchases that are well within our budget and yet elegant and tasteful.

Home furniture Can Be Used in

The bedroom, kitchen, living room, dining room, bars, and study, and can even be strategically placed so as to create a multipurpose room like a dining cum living room. Choosing home décor and furniture may seem a daunting task, but it does not appear so difficult once you have decided what sort of furniture you prefer, and what you do not consider essential for your home.

Factors to Consider Before Purchasing Furniture

Furnishing your home - be it with home bar furniture, home entertainment furniture, or simply used home furniture need not be as expensive an affair as you might think. With some smart planning, clear thinking, and a dash of creativity, it can be achieved within your budget, and yet made to appear stylish with that distinctive unique look that sets it apart from the rest. Here are a few factors to consider before purchasing furniture:

First, whether it is to do with fabric, colors or style, focus on what you like and what you do not.

Then, decide on what style you would want to furnish your home with - is it casual, modern, traditional? If you are unable to decide, then browse through a few interior décor catalogs for some direction.

Then choose the colors that you want - colors that instinctively come to mind when you think of home. You can contrast and complement colors if you like.

Decide on your budget.

Buy furniture, keeping the measurements of your rooms in mind.

Curiously enough, the furniture you buy is dictated to a large extent, by the view from your window. If you look out and can see the beautiful countryside with its rolling meadows and plains, then your home décor and furniture should suitably reflect the country mood. Similarly with urban cityscape views.

Since you have designated each of your rooms for a specific use, buy furniture for each room according to how you intend using it. For example, if you want your kitchen to double up as a dining room as well, then you would need chairs and a dining table to fit into your kitchen.

Choose furniture that you feel comfortable with, and not just because it is in vogue.

Remember that your home should reflect your personality, your themes and your preferences, and not that of someone else. If the style appears right to you, then it probably is.

Ravinder Bishthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09606216146233590623noreply@blogger.com1
